Circle of Life...

Presented By: The Early Bird

President Trump was shot in Pennsylvania yesterday at a rally.

As of this writing, the suspected shooter has been killed along with another innocent bystander, and a few others were seriously injured, but President Trump will survive the assassination attempt

Sadly, this is not new in the United States.

Donald Trump becomes the 7th president to be shot in an assassination attempt-

  • Abraham Lincoln - 1865 (fatally shot)
  • James A. Garfield - 1881 (fatally shot)
  • William McKinley - 1901 (fatally shot)
  • Theodore Roosevelt - 1912 (shot but survived)
  • John F. Kennedy - 1963 (fatally shot)
  • Ronald Reagan - 1981 (shot but survived)
  • Donald Trump - 2024 (shot but survived)

Ten other presidents had assassination attempts that failed, like in 1835 with Andrew Jackson’s assassination attempt because both of the assassin's guns misfired, or in 1933 when an attempt was made on the life of FDR and the assassin's bullet killed Chicago Mayor Anton Cermak instead.

People are outraged, calls for action are made, little changes…And life goes on.

For context, I define myself as a nonpartisan humanitarian. I’m all for helping people and improving their lives, but I don't pick sides in politics. Instead, I think about how we can do good for others without worrying about which political party an idea comes from.

This week, a slew of notable people have died, including Shelley Duvall (75), Richard Simmons (76), Dr. Ruth (96), Shannon Doherty (53), and ex-NFL receiver Jacoby Jones (40).

I'm reminded of something stoic philosopher Epictetus said: "It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters."

The Stoics believed that what happens to us isn't good or bad. Instead, how we think about these things makes them seem good or bad. Our thoughts and feelings about what happens affect us, not the events themselves.

All this made me look at my own life. I realized I don't know when my last day will be. So, I will try to be nicer to people around me. I fully control it, and it might make the world a little better.

As an investor (that's what we are, remember?), I'm also thinking about how I spend my money. We invest because we want more money later, so we can't spend the money we have invested now. I will think harder about balancing between saving for tomorrow and enjoying today.

Everyone has an opinion about what happened, but not everyone is right. It is important to have good reasons for your beliefs in life, politics, or investing. Don't just believe something because someone you trust said it.

Did I just tell you never to believe something because someone you trust says so? Isn’t that a negation of my previous statement?

Ow. My brain hurts.

I have a baptism to attend today amid all this chaos. It's kind of cool to celebrate a new life when there's so much bad news.

Life's messy and unpredictable, but it keeps on going.

Stay safe out there, and remember to be kind. It's something we can all do to make things a little better.

🗣️Quote of the week🗣️

"Basically if you started with $10,000 and invested back in 1924 only when republicans were in office, that would now be $100K. If you invested only when Democrats were in office, you'd have $500K. If you just stayed invested it would be $5M. It's smartest just to stay invested."

Presented By: The Early Bird from MarketBeat Official Affiliate Partner: The Early Bird from MarketBeat The Mistake I used to own 250 shares in Energy Products Partners (EPD) and held them in my ROTH and Self-Directed IRA accounts, thinking it was smart. However, it turns out that EPD was already a tax-advantaged investment, making it unnecessary to hold in tax-free accounts like a Roth. This was a valuable lesson in understanding the tax implications of my investments. The Realization During...
